IFT celebrated the creation of a new scholarship fund, established to honor Richard L. Hall (center in photo), former President of both IFT and the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) during the Keynote Session held Sunday, June 7, at the Anaheim Convention Center.
At the event, Howard Smith Jr. (left in photo), Immediate Past President of FEMA, presented IFT Foundation Chair Jonathan Merkle (right in photo) with a check for $50,000 to fund the Dr. Richard L. Hall Scholarship in Flavor Science. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduate student in the flavor sciences or a discipline related to flavor or food safety. The scholarship is part of the Willoughby McCormick Centennial Award presented to Hall at FEMA’s recent 100th annual convention.
“Those who have been fortunate to work with Dr. Hall have learned from him, and are grateful for his leadership and friendship,” said Smith in making the presentation. “No person has been of greater service to FEMA and the flavor industry than Dr. Richard L. Hall.”
