A new soy protein isolate, Supro® XF, was launched by Solae LLC, Booth 2608, at a press conference held on Monday morning. The ingredient offers enhanced flavor and functionality benefits for use in ready-to-drink and powdered beverages.
“Supro XF can take products to new levels of soy protein content while delivering great taste at the same time,” said Jon McIntyre, Senior Vice President for Solae Technology and Innovation. It delivers the flavor performance, mouthfeel, and nutritional benefits critical for beverage applications in sports performance, weight management, and clinical nutrition segments.
The high-quality, complete protein is made with a proprietary technology that produces unique peptide amino acid sequences and functionality. It includes lower levels of soy volatiles for a less beany flavor, higher solubility at neutral to slightly acidic pH ranges compared to other soy proteins, and a low viscosity profile similar to hydrolyzed proteins while avoiding their bitter flavor.
The soy protein isolate can replace up to100% of the high-value dairy protein in an existing formula while maintaining or improving the overall sensory experience, noted McIntyre. In some formulas where soy is the sole protein source, the ingredient can deliver a positive taste experience at the level of 30 g protein per 12-oz serving. The company’s sensory data shows that a sports nutrition beverage formulated with Supro XF is preferred by consumers 2:1 over a leading commercial brand.
“As an industry leader, Solae is invested in strong science-based research and development strategies, and continues to invest in health and nutrition,” said Torkel Rhenman, the company’s CEO. “This enables us to develop exciting new ingredients, such as Supro XF, that deliver quality, great-tasting products for our customers and the end consumer.
The ingredient is available to customers today in the United States.
At its booth, Solae will also be highlighting its wide range of soy-based ingredients for the food, meat, and nutritional product industries. Ingredients include soy protein concentrates and isolates, extruded soy protein crisps, soy fiber, and soy lecithin. The ingredients are used in such applications as nutritional beverages, nutrition bars, baked goods, meats, vegetarian meals, and other products. The company is headquartered in St. Louis, Mo.
